If you're in the market for a new television, chances are you are planning on purchasing an LCD TV. These flat panel televisions have quickly become commonplace in homes, hotel, businesses and virtually every other location you would expect on finding a television monitor. With their decreasing prices and technological improvements, these monitors are becoming a desirable and logical investment.

Like with any other big-ticket purchase, it is important to be informed before you head over to your local electronic retailer to make a purchase. The array of brand, models and features can be quite overwhelming if you do not take the time to consider them all and analyze how they will fit into your needs.

First consider where you are planning on using your new LCD, and how big of a screen your space can withhold. They can either be wall or table mounted depending on the space you have available. If wall mounting the television, avoid placing it over a functioning fireplace as the heat may affect the longevity of the set. Make sure it is up high enough for comfortable viewing from a couch or a bed. When using a table mount, ensure the entire width of the set and the table will fit perfectly into your allotted space with a few inches for ventilation and connection access. Whenever you plan on installing your TV, make sure you can view the image from the sides and not only the prime viewing area. If you find the image begins to fade or becomes hard to view from the sides, it may be difficult for a large group of viewers to enjoy the screen from different parts of the room. You may be able to use a moveable table mount so the screen can be tilted to meet your viewing needs.

Without sufficient brightness the image will look soft, even in a dark room. A brightness rating listed as 550 cd/m2 or high is good, but just make sure the screen is bright enough for your viewing needs in the room. The viewing distance, size of the screen and the natural light in the room will all affect the need for more screen brightness.

Pixel count is another feature you need to take note of when shopping for an LCD TV. Most sets over 23 inches offer at least 720 to 768 pixel resolution, which is the minimum you should look for. Larger screens, especially 40 inches and up, are now offering 1080 pixel resolution which is excellent especially if you are planning on using a Blu-ray Disc player with your set.

LCD TVs now have built-in ATSC tuners, which are required to receive over-the-air TV broadcast signals. Some may also feature a QAM tuner which is required to receive unscrambled HD cable programming without a cable box. Keep in mind your set should include at least one HDMI input to connect HD sources such as cable, Satellite boxes, DVD or Blue-ray players.

The Olympus OM-D EM-5 is a digital camera like no other. On the inside, it is a state-of-the-art interchangeable-lens compact (ILC), an exciting new breed of camera also known as the mirrorless interchangeable-lens compact (MILC) and the compact system camera (CSC). On the outside, though, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 is a handsome homage to classic Olympus OM-series 35mm SLRsdown to the familiar top-deck hump that houses the eye-level viewfinder on a digital or film SLR. As different as the OM-D EM-5s interior and exterior are, there is a connection between them. Whether you call the new interchangeable-lens compacts ILC, MILC, or CSC, they are ultracompactjust as Olympus OM-series models were the smallest 35mm SLRs of their time. As with other ILC models, the new Olympus achieves its downsizing by substituting electronic viewing for the DSLRs reflex mirror system.

With ILC models, photographers can (and often must) use the LCD screen on the back of the camera to view and compose. With the Olympus OM-D EM-5, though, they can choose between the cameras three-inch LCD screen (which tilts up and down for low- and high-angle shooting) or its eye-level viewfinder, shooting just the way they would with a digital SLR but without the bulk. With an ultrahigh resolution of 1.44 million dots, the cameras electronic viewfinder is exceptionally sharp and crisp. Whats more, unlike many DSLR viewfinderswhich sometimes show less of the subject than is recorded in the final picturethe new models viewfinder shows 100 percent of whats captured by its Four Thirds-format image sensor.

The 16.4-megapixel image sensor in the Olympus OM-D EM-5 is stabilized by the all-new Olympus Five-Axis Image Stabilization system, which is much more effective at preventing blur due to hand tremors. Autofocus is split-second fast, with enhanced ability to track a moving subject. And that improvement is complemented by the cameras blazing 9.2 frames-per-second high-speed burst rate.

The Olympus OM-D EM-5s controls are a mix of modern (wheels and toggle switches) and retro (mode dials). And it is the first in the ILC class to be splash- and dustproof, which together with its rugged magnesium-alloy construction makes it up to the challenge of hard-knocks photography. Likewise, the all-new Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 EZ zoom lens (the equivalent of 24-100mm in the 35mm format) features this weatherproof build. Announced in tandem with the camera, this lens is the latest addition to the nearly one dozen Micro Four Thirds lenses accepted by the Olympus OM-D EM-5. With the Olympus MMF-3 Four Thirds Lens Adapter, the camera can also be used with regular Four Thirds Format DSLR lenses, including Olympus E-series optics, and with the Olympus MF-2 OM Lens Adapter, the camera even accepts original OM-series 35mm manual-focus lenses, in either case adding weatherproofing to the lens-camera connection.

The new LED television is in place along with the Blu-ray player. It is time to insert that first movie and relax with your home theater. The picture is fantastic. It is possible to see every nook and cranny on the screen, but that high-speed chase sounds like dune buggies. What can be wrong?

Take a close look at the television. The new LED televisions are thin. The thinner is the better for most people. They are less obtrusive and fit well against the wall or on the wall. Then you slide that disc in of that movie you have been waiting to enjoy. Could the television be defective? Probably not. As thin as it is, the sound system must be in there somewhere, but where?

Manufacturers put a lot more emphasis on the picture than on the sound. Therefore the manufacturer can create this tremendously thin television without a tremendous amp or speaker. It is no wonder that the sound is inferior. The solution is home audio systems. No home theater is complete without one of these theater audio systems. A good portion of your enjoyment comes from the sound produced by your system.

The reasons for not having an additional sound system vary from not having a perfect room to not having a perfect ear for sound. Perhaps the room seems too small for large speakers for an audio system. Any of these reasons can be argued and solved.

There are now speakers that will suit the shape of any room. You do not need specific speakers for your theater audio systems. Speakers are produced that can easily disregard the shape of the room and provide the owner with fantastic sound.

If you don't feel your ear is discerning enough to tell the difference, perhaps a visit to your television store will give you the opportunity to experience the various sound systems for your home theater. By switching sound systems on the sets in the store, you will see quickly just how much of a difference the various home theater audio systems make. Your ear is much better than you thought.
