How do i know if I Am listening in 5.1? Or at least getting the best out of my speaker system?
I have a Pioneer VSX-516 with bose acoustimass 6 series III as a home theater speaker system. The Amp is capable of processing 7.1 but the bose speakers are 5.1(5 speakers, 1 sub). I AM getting the digital signal into the amp. The front left and right speakers and the front center functions just fine. I have 3 problems 1)When i do a THX test (from a DVD movie menu) my back right speaker goes on when only the back left one should. 2)In the back of the amp i have 2 different sections i can put the back channels on (either "sourround back" or "surround"). Which one do i plug the back speakers into?3)How do i know when i get the complete 5.1 experience? Hopefully u guys understand me. I have checked my connections several times and this thing is driving me crazy. HELP!!!! thanx
1) Try using the Pioneer's "TEST TONE" in the setup menu instead if your THX disc. Accidentally switching the "LEFT" and "RIGHT" rear speakers happens all the time. Just flip the connections to make it right.
2) Make sure you've "told" the Pioneer that you're only running 5 speakers (turn off the "SURROUND BACK"). You want to connect your rear to the "SURROUND" (LEFT and RIGHT) jacks only.
3)Make sure all of your speakers are set to "LARGE" and subwoofer to "NO". Your BOSE speakers work the opposite of normal speakers and you'll get better sound with the Pioneer setup this way (assuming that all 5 speakers get run through the subwoofer first).
Make sure the front display of the Pioneer actually says "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" during movie playback. If not, your DVD player's digital out needs to be set to "BITSTREAM" (for both Dolby and DTS).
Lastly, speaker placement is key. Even you do all of the things listed above, if you (or your speakers) are placed improperly throughout your living room, the whole thing will still sound lousy. Click the link: http://www.avtruths.com/speaker.html
