Play HD content without an HD DVD player?
Hello,
Since my TV (Sony KDL 40S2000) should support HD content,
I was wondering is there a way of playing downloaded HD videos without having to buy a new HD DVD player.
There's an HDMI socket in the TV, I also have it connected to my Philips DVD player, however the DVD will not support HD files (divX 720i or so).
I thought of connecting my laptop, but it has no digital output.
Is there any way of to bypass that ? or do you happen to know if there are on the market any portable hard-drives that can output digital video and support HD ?
I rather find the cheapest solution until the price markets of HD DVD players will be cheap enought.

You need a new laptop or a desktop PC with a DVI out (you would hook a DVI-to-HDMI adapter to it).
Pirates have already cracked Blu-Ray and HD-DVD encryption, so HD movies are all over the net. The pirates downconvert them from 1080p to 720p (using the x.264 codec), but they still look 5x better than a normal 480p DVD. They are about 8gb in size (burnable to a dual-layer DVD for backup). You need a fast single core (Athlon64) or a dual core to play them as decoding x.264 takes some power.
Hard drives that decode HD video, not a chance.
If you download a bunch of these new HD movies, you could build a home theater PC (HTPC) from newegg.com for less than $300.
