Can I connect a powered sub to my TV without a receiver?
I have a 42" Samsung plasma with an RCA audio output. I dispise home theater kits and am not a fan of surround sound, but would like to add deeper bass to my tv. I've looked at a couple powered subs with an RCA input and I'm wondering if all I have to do is connect it? Will it cut the sound from my TV speakers if I do and will it work on all devices input into the TV?
If it does work what is the min wattage I should get? 3 models I've looked at all are $1 a watt. 100/200/400 watt all name brands. I'd like to get the 200 for the price, but I think the 400 might give me the clean sounding bass I want. Thanks. Online place to buy?...all I got here is Best Buy:( I'd rather pay return shipping than 15% restocking.
Powered computer speaker set worked using a Ipod RCA to headphone set. Only plugged in mono because of echo and turned treble down on sub. Sounds great, but can a higher end powered sub filter out high and mid frequences cause I still have a echo?
one thing you might want to try is to see if your TV has a menu to turn on an aux audio output. if it does see if when you turn it on if it turns off the TV speakers. if you still hear sound then nothing should be stopping you from hooking up the sub. however, if the speakers on the tv turn off and you have the sub hooked up you'll just hear muffled sounds and bass. i would recommend checking out a powered set of computer speakers, many of them can really put out some serious sound and are plenty powerful. most will have a typical 1/8" headphone type jack that can easily be adapted to the RCA connection youll need. i just purchased a 200watt 2.1 system for my computer for under 150 at circuit city. i imagine that bestbuy would have the same or better yet check out ebay if you don't mind shipping. hope that helps.
