So you want to choose the best HDTV? How do you go about choosing your preferred high definition set.

It wouldn't surprise you to learn many consider the size of the TV as the most important aspect and this is particularly so for home theater enthusiasts. But what if you're not into home theaters but still enjoy your television?

One of the benefits of the Samsung LN-T3253H is it doesn't lack in the area of features which is a solid trait with Samsung models. They certainly haven't let consumers down with this model. In the 32" range, this set is one of the best.

Picture is just about everything with HDTV and the improved feature of the Samsung LN-T3253H is the extra options provided to tweak the set's picture. Like it's Hitachi 32" rival it has excellent connectivity and doesn't lack in the area of style which will keep your better half happy at least.

The price is another outstanding feature and if you are going to spend a little less and sacrifice some quality then stop and take a look at this model first. For a few hundred bucks more, you'll be more than pleased. The Samsung LN-T3253H can be picked up for between $700-$900.

I recommend getting the DVD player separately. A lot of times the DVD player will break before the TV, meaning that you're stuck with repairing it.

Since you can get a DVD player for cheap and just replace it, why be stuck with one inside your TV?

You can get a nice 26" for under $500. Look for one with a PC input, like LG...that way you can hook up your PC when it's time to do some work (yeah right) and you'll have a great PC monitor!

LCD HDTV has become a trend in the home entertainment industry because of its sleek and thin design. It has gained recognition because of its innovative features and impressive picture quality. To minimize distracting light reflections, a lot of LCD HDTVs have a matte finish. However, there are some new LCD HDTVs that are incorporating glossy top filters that enhance apparent contrast and color saturation by making video black appear pitch-black dark. Glossy LCD screens make a slightly crispier picture than a matte finished outside filter can produce.

An LCD TV produces a picture by channeling the output of a very bright backlighting system through a series of optical filters. The capacity to control an LCD TV's backlight can help minimize eyestrain in a dark viewing environment. In addition, the brightness level of an LCD HDTV's backlight correlates to its power consumption. Lower backlight output to dark-room viewing levels can result in one-half to two-third less power consumed. Also, lower backlighting extends the lifespan of the lamp module.

Lastly, you should consider video port needs, particularly HDMI. High-Definition Multimedia Interface is the standard for digital video transfer in home-theater. The main benefits are the clarity of a digital signal and the audio and video that are streamed over a single cable connection. Common appliances that can be connected to an LCD HDTV through HDMI are DVD players and game consoles. Most LCD HDTV provides two to four ports.

LCD can't get full HD from camcorder via DVI port?

I connect my HD camcorder Canon Vixia HF100 to full HD LCD display via DVI-HDMI adapter (monitor have no HDMI port) and HDMI cable (type C in camcorder to type A in adapter) but this monitor can get only 720x480 (DVD) and not full HD (1920x1080) images.

Your description is slightly confusing in that it is pretty rare to have a LCD monitor operating in "Full HD" as you say, because full HD being 1920x1080 is a resolution reserved for HD televisions, Plasma or LCD. If it is a monitor it more likely would be 1920x1200.

So I assume you have an LCD TV doubling as a monitor, which is a setup I myself use for duel screen on my PC. If this is the case, there are two solutions that spring to mind.

The first, more likely explanation is that it is actually a setting on the TV. As crazy as it sounds, I just bought an LG 47" LCD for my company at work, plugged a cam corder in and the res was all crappy. Upon going into the TV settings I discovered you actually had to turn it up from the default 720x576 to 1280x720 (basic HD) or 1920x1080 (full HD). I don't know why this is necessary but if your TV has settings try looking there.

Secondly, some camcorders have a setting which automatically downres's footage to non-HD on output on the assumption that the receiving end is not HD. You may have to switch this mode off in the camera settings.

Will my HDTV plasma from the USA, work when I move to tokyo Japan?

Its a panasonic plasma, will it work in tokyo as is?

Not exactly. We have almost the same voltage, so that won't be much of a problem but we have different tuner frequency( for the channels.) so you might lose a few channels.

Also, in 2011, all the broadcasting in Japan will be digital terrestrial broadcasting(all Analog Broadcasting will be terminated.) so you'd need a tuner for that to watch TV.
( Or buy a new DVD player in Japan, and use your TV as a monitor.)

If you think about the expenses sending your TV to Japan and buying new equipment, I'd just go buy a new one in Japan.

Projection technology - Front and Rear Projector systems

There are two types of projection systems available : Front projection and rear projection.

Front projection is probably the most expensive HDTV you can get. It consists of a projector and a separate screen across the room. You would need a large room to fit this system in or maybe a room dedicated to your home theater system. With this system you can get large screens that have great pictures but the system is hard to set up and requires regular maintenance and tweaking to get the best picture.

Rear projection is a screen built into the HDTV. This is a considerably cheaper option. A rear projector system can be quite thin if it is using a micro projector but also suffers from limited viewing angles.

CRT Technology

The cathode ray tube technology is the one that most people are familiar with. Essentially they use a tube that makes them quite bulky but would be no bigger than a standard TV. In general a CRT HDTV would have a great range of color and a superior contrast ratio to the other types of technologies. The screen sizes are often smaller than the other technology types and the picture resolution is lower.

Bad? Quite the opposite is true, in fact you'd be hard pressed to find a better TV to game on for more than a few reasons. Here's just a couple of reasons that pertain to the gaming aspect and why CRT is the king.

1- Burn in is a non issue if common sense is used. By this I mean limiting game sessions to 8 hour stretches, then switching over and watching some regular TV or perhaps a DVD as this will keep the image from 'life bars' and such from becoming a permenant fixture on your screen. Hey, this goes for EVERY set regardless of whether it's CRT, Plasma or LCD though CRT is the most forgiving in this aspect while the Plasma is the worst offender. As a rule of thumb keeping your contrast ratios at a sub 50 setting will help greatly, in fact i'll even give you the optimal settings for your exact set as I have a 51f59 and have done extensive research. These settings are the baseline used by some serious TV tweekers and are derived via calibration, light and color meters to be optimal. You may need to go a few points + or - depending on your lighting conditions and such but these are the best place to start.

2- Lag, or perhaps I should say the lack of. If you shop the various other display formats you'll run across a thing called response time and this is measured in milliseconds(ms). Now 8ms is considered minimum for game play and at this speed ghost trailing will be only slight, noticeable in gaming or when watching action on TV such as sports. Sure, it seems manageable but as for gaming on FPS type shooters it's a nightmare as that 'dead on' head shot keeps just missing. This is lag and it's a killer, especially during on line play. Luckily there is ZERO lag to be had on a CRT type display and thus you have an advantage in each and every game you play, especially if you eventually upgrade your system to an Xbox 360 and go on line with Xbox Live. You'll always be slightly ahead of opponents playing on Plasma and LCD type sets and as we all know ANY edge is a good thing!

Rest assured, you've choosen wisely and have an absolutely fabulous set in your Hitachi one which will provide an astounding picture for many years to come be it for gaming or simply watching. The Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is an outstanding system like the V2500 series with some upgrades. The first noticeable difference you will recognize is that the Sony KDL-40V3000 looks more elegant than the V2500. The piano black frame is nice and somewhat reflective but not shiny and distractive. The base is sturdy and the rear is well designed so that the input and output cables will have no problem connecting. Overall, the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD HDTV is a very nice looking flat panel TV.

Like the V2500, the picture quality of the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is stunning, as is expected of Sony HDTVs. Glare is not a problem when watching in a bright room. It's almost as good as watching at night and the wide viewing angle is excellent. Fast action sequences are not as blurry as other LCD HDTVs thanks to the 10 bit processor and Non-HD programs are tolerable unlike other HDTVs. The picture quality of DVDs on the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is excellent. Needless to say, video gaming with a PS3 or Xbox360 is awesome.

Setup is quick and easy. The "Xross Menu Bar" menu is like the PS3's, simple and intuitive. It's basically like the menu in a window of Windows XP with File, Edit, etc. It's recommended that once you turn on the Sony KDL-40V3000 that you change the "vivid" setting to "normal" because normal just looks better. The red and green colors in vivid are "too much". The remote is easy to use and feels nice, but you should invest in a universal remote anyway if you plan to connect multiple devices to the TV.

If you don't have room or enough cash for a surround sound system, the speakers should be good enough. It's not going to sound like a home theater by itself, but the surround sound that the Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 LCD HDTV does offer is very good for a flat panel with a small frame.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is selling at a good price right now and is one of the best HDTVs you can get for the value. You can't go wrong with this model if you don't want to jump to an XBR just yet. Just be careful to not become a couch potato once you have it hooked up. The picture quality is that good. I don't expect anything less from Sony so it's no surprise that the Bravia KDL-40V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is a top performer.

what should i go with Samsung - 61" 1080p DLP or Samsung - 46" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV?

I think the DLP will have a better picture, but look for yourself. One thing to check for before you get a DLP is for "rainbows". Move your eyes across the screen when a bright object is displayed. You may see a trail of colors (not everyone can see them). If you can see them, that may bother you.

For the LCD, check how it looks when watching a dark scene. Check for uniformity of tone on the screen by looking at a scene with large sky areas or the background of a menu.

If you will be watching in a darkened room, the DLP will probably look better.

Can you tell me which LCD is better of the two specs? LN-S4695D vs. LNT4665F?

I want to buy a LCD soon, but I am torn between Samsung LN-S4695D 46" 1080p LCD HDTV and Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV. Can you tell me what the difference between the two?

Specification-wise the Samsung LN-S4695D and LN-T4665F have the appearance of being fairly similar. The most notable specification differences between the two are contrast ratio and the connections - the LN-T4665F is equipped with USB 2.0 and three HDMI 1.3a compliant connections and supports HDMI CEC. In addition to the standard compliment of HDTV connections the LN-S4695D provides one IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connection whereas the LN-T4665F does not.

However the most important difference is not obvious from the basic specifications and that is that the LN-T4665F uses Samsung's new “Super Clear Panel” LCD technology. Samsung's Super Clear Panel LCDs provide noticeably improved picture quality capable of matching (and in some cases exceeding) plasma display panel performance. For what it’s worth the LN-T4665F is also a newer model than the LN-S4695D (or LN-S4696D.)

Flat screen TV is one of the most popular and exciting TV technologies today. At only a few inches thick, flat screen TVs offer unparalleled flexibility and convenience. Older conventional TV's, in fairness to them, did offer crisp and vibrant images. However, these TV's, which operate through a cathode ray tube (CRT), suffered from one major drawback, they were bulky. As screen size increased, so did the bulk and weight. However, the TV of old has reached its twilight years. New television technologies have enabled TV manufacturers to create TVs with wider screen size yet still only a few inches thick. Thus, flat screen TVs usher home entertainment into the 21st century.

Flat Screen TV basically refers to two technologies: Plasma and LCD. The advances in these two technologies have enabled TV makers to build thin, lightweight TV screens with a large picture area. Plasma and LCD both offer similarly large, lightweight, flat screen TV's but the similarities are skin deep for their inner workings are different.

Plasma or LCD?

Plasma and LCD TVs generally look similar however they use very different technologies. Plasma utilizes a grid of tiny cells of gas plasma that light up and create a picture when charged by precise electrical voltages. LCD (liquid crystal display) screens on the other hand are made of liquid crystals sandwiched between two glass plates and create images by varying the amount of electrical charge applied to the crystals. Both Plasma and LCD offer excellent picture quality. The following are their strengths and weaknesses and edge over the other.

1. Plasma screens can display blacks more accurately compared to LCD. Thus, pictures in a Plasma TV have richer contrast and better detail especially in dark TV and movie scenes. LCD TV's are catching up however.

2. Plasma TV has better viewing angles than LCD TV. How far you can sit on either side of the screen before the qualities of the pictures are affected is what the "viewing angle" is. In LCD TVs, brightness and color tend to shift when angled too far while that of Plasma TVs remain solid.

3. Plasma TV can produce brighter color while light leakages in LCD screens affect the color saturation.

4. Plasma TVs are priced relatively less than their LCD counterparts especially in the large screen segment. Plasma TVs offer much larger sizes than LCDs, yet are still priced lower.

5. LCD has a higher native resolution than plasma TVs of the same size. This results to sharper images and makes LCD TV the better choice for HDTV.

6. LCD TVs consume almost 30% less power than Plasma TVs.

7. LCD TVs are generally lighter than similar sized Plasmas.

8. Among the two, LCD screens have a longer life span than plasma screens. LCDs can last up to 60,000 hours compared to Plasma that average from 30,000 to 60,000 hours.

9. Plasma TVs are more prone to screen burn-ins compared to LCDs although newer plasma technology are less susceptible to these.

If you are looking for a large flat screen TV, Plasma TV is recommended. Plasma TVs can give you better value for your money. The price difference between Plasma TVs and LCD TVs is big. However, if you have money to burn, then LCD TV is the better choice especially if you want the sharpest images. For smaller flat screen TVs at the range of 15” to 36”, LCD is the way to go. Ultimately, both technologies are still evolving and new innovations and improvements are definitely in the works.
