You have a different problem

Your DVD player does not downmix properly the 5.1 channels, so since you don't have a Center channel you miss all the dialog!!

Go back to your settings and specify you have a 2-ch stereo system, not 5.1 or on the DVD menu specify 2-ch stereo NOT Dolby or DTS.

That "tiny" 35 watt amp you describe was something we old folks recognize as a "Tube" or "Valve" amp.
This is an example of electronics before transistors miniaturized everything.
Don't be fooled by the small watt rating, Tubes handle a LOT of power (touch the wrong lead when grounded and youre dead). Many people love the warm smooth sound tube amps give.
It is easy to design an amp with tons of rated power, but it will sound like crap.
A well designed and built amp with with modest power rating will play loud enough to get the cops to the door and sound good at the same time.
I had a 90 watt amp that I drove a set of electrostatic speakers(notoriously power hungry) just fine.
Amplifiers are on the surface, very simple devices, it's easy to design and built them to extreme power levels, much harder to get them to sound good at any power level.
It is easy to find high quality amps for sale on Ebay or Audiogon or other similar sites.

That 3K amp is a Public Address Amplifier, not suitable for music or HT.

i want to purchase a sony home theater but am confused about which system to buy...so far i've seen the bravia?

For that money you could get a system like mine - the HTDDWG800. It has the same codecs and such but it has more connectivity options. Plus, instead of it using a dvd player as the amp, it uses a proper reciever. DVD systems usually pale in comparison to proper systems, I discovered when shopping around, plus it becomes more useful in the long run because you can plug more stuff into it. Correct me if I am wrong, but the hdx277wc does not have a HDMI input, so you cant plug an xbox or a ps3 into it, so you cant exactly get the best sound out of blu rays if you ever get one as you are stuck with using the dvd player that comes with it.

I think it is much better to get a system with a proper amp, and if you shop around you can build your own system for cheaper.

Bear in mind that this was a glance at the system specs, so dont take it as facts.

I want to get a home theater projector. How many lumens is sufficient in high lighting areas?

I need as much general information about the low end projectors. It doesnt have to be a great picture, I think im more concerned with saving a buck.

Projectors are not practical in a high lit area. But, if you are going to install one, then you need 2000 lumens minimum. For a normal home theater with low or controlled lighting, then you can go with a 1000-1500 lumen projector.

For a high lit area, I would really recommend a flat panel TV like a LCD or plasma TV.

I have a question for all those home theater nutts?

Both brands of speakers are top notch.

Bowers & Wilkins are amazingly accurate, but they're somewhat fragile IMO.

A friend of mine has owned 2 pairs for quite some time (10 years?) and he has had 2 tweeters blow and 1 woofer.

B&W replaced them for free, but still....

If I were you I'd go with the Def Techs, if only for that Supercube Sub.

That thing looks sweet! 1500 watt, digital amp and is rated down to 13hz!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On amazon, you can get a great Polk 5.1 speaker system, #6750, 6 speakers, list price $600, for about $250. If you need to make that into a 7.1 system, just add two more Polk speakers, such as the #6751s for about $60 each.
They have available 7.1 receivers such as the Onkyo TX-SR575, list price $400, for $220.36, with free shipping.
In speakers, Polk, Infinity & JBL are really good brands, and in receivers, Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer, and Onkyo are among the best for good quality.
So, if you got the items that I listed, you'd have a name brand system, with 8 speakers and a great 7.1 receiver, for just about $600.
Bose is good, but its way overpriced. You pay for their name and their styling.
Buying new from amazon gets you full manufacturers warranties, and the rest is what you want your gear to have. So, if you want HDMI connections, them read the product descriptions so as to see how many ins and outs of each type the receivers that you look at have. The speakers only will have their standard connections. With them, get some good quality standard 16 gauge speaker wire. Theres no need for expensive premium wires.

Home theater problem?!?

I have a 1080p Blu-ray player (sony BDP-S360), a 1080p AV Receiver (Denon AVR-2310) and a 1080p Projector. The problem is that the system only works on 1080i !!

Just FYI: The blu ray is a source. It send signals to the television. Very few signals are sent in 1080p, must signals are sent in 1080i. Your television resolution is1080p.

Your blu ray is responding to the request that it sends a 1080p signal and the blu ray disc is only a 1080i. This is why your signal is going out.

How do I connect my Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers to my Onkyo Audio Receiver?

I have no clue what type of connection the Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers are.

All speakers need two wires to work; positive and negative one.

One manufacturer blurp is to tell you this: always connect the positive wire to the postive output on the amplifier and the negative to the negative output on the amplifier respectively. But really, should you?

No! Not necessary! Its main purpose is to prevent 'short circuiting' the speaker and amplifier, which can result in explosion or fire.

That's because as long one wire goes through the positive and the other negative output on the amplifier, the speaker and amplifier should work fine.

Important note though: make sure the speaker impedance is supported by the amplifier and that the speaker supports more than the maximum power supplied by the amplifier.

So, modern theatre speakers have clips so that the two wires seems to be one. Just cut the end of the wire, not so close to the clip so you can always 'reconnect' them in the future, snapped them and separate the two wires so you can easily connect later, and then cut off a small portion of the wire head to expose the internal wiring.

There you go. Your Samsung speakers should now be easily connected via 2-input/output wiring on the Onkyo amplifier.

Again. Make sure the Onkyo support the impedance of the Samsung speaker, cause many modern theatre speakers have super low impedance of 2-4ohms, which on amplifiers that support 8-12ohms, you could be firing up the amplifier with heat which will do permanent damage to it.
