Can I use my pc monitor for viewing HD DVD movies?

I have a Dell 1907FP Flat Panel Monitor. I had this monitor since March 2006. I'm planning to buy a HD DVD drive for my pc.

HD-DVD is a dead standard by the way-- all high-def DVDs from this year forward will be in Blu-Ray format.

If you want to use your computer to play back HD DVDs and Blu-Ray discs at full HD 1080p definitions, you need to have:

1 - the right drive. Remember HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs are not compatible.

2 - an HDCP-compliant video card.

3 - an HDCP-compliant monitor. If you want to play the movie in full pixel-for-pixel 1920x1080 high resolution glory, you need a monitor that can display at least 1920x1080.

I think your Dell 1907FP is HDCP-compliant, but it can't do full 1920x1080 resolution playback. You also need to check your video card-- Lack of HDCP compliance means the playback will be limited to low 480i resolution or no playback at all.

While a huge draw for Direct TV's fifteen and a half million subscribers is the massive amount of quality television programming provided by its hundreds of channels, the great television technology that's provided with every subscription goes a long way toward keeping those subscribers happy and satisfied.

How many hours worth of surveillance will a Mpeg4 Digital Video Recorder with a 250GB hard drive hold?

I am purchasing a CCTV system for work. Awaiting answers to my inquireies made directly to various company sales reps. In the mean time I would like to see what those of you experienced with CCTV can tell me. I have seen systems with hard drives smaller than the one I am looking at claim to hold 3 weeks worth of 24/7 video. I do not know what kind of resolution this would be at. Basically I am wondering if a 250GB hard drive will give me adequate resolution (for identifying faces from under 10 feet) and at the same time, a few weeks worth of storage before I have to write over the drive, or back up the video on cdrom. Come on Holsbrook..what ya got for me?

All of the other posters ahead of me are correct. My practical experience:

The security DVR in my home system is set to take a still every 4 seconds. There are four cameras pointed at different places. The DVR has a 200 gig drive (and can use up to 250 gig, I just did not get it at the time). The DVR has a feature that can detect motion in the camcorder's visual field - and you can specify the motion detection area. When motion is detected in the specified area, the DVR starts recording that camera's video feed at real-time. All four cameras can be recording in real-time simultaneously.

Admittedly, the areas covered are not that busy, so the 200 gig typically takes a little over 30 days to fill. Then, it is first-in/first out over-writing. The image resolution of the cameras will be just as important as the compression employed by the image storage firmware in the DVR... but at 10 feet, you should have little trouble identifying faces... this presumes a good angle on the camera (closer to horizontal is best).

Other considerations:

1) You might not need night vision.
2) CAT5 twisted pair cable works great - COAX for runs under 100 feet or not near fluorescent lighting or AC power is not necessary.
3) Get a good sized battery back-up. If there is a power outage, don't leave your system without power. You can use a big UPS that would normally power a computer for power back-up. Provide power to the cameras and the DVR - and at least one flat-screen monitor.
4) Secure - as in BIG BOLTS and strong straps - the DVR to something or have it in a locked (strong), well ventilated place (shelf, rack, whatever). Best to hide it. It would be a bummer to go through all this only to have the bad people just take the DVR (and hence, your evidence).
5) Consider having a small flatpanel monitor visible to show you really have a video surveillance system - and put "Alert" signs up, too. This *could* be a different system - so that bad people just figure out where the video cams cannot see and do bad stuff there... The "other system" would cover THOSE areas.

There are many sizes of monitors today. Choosing the right size depends on several things. For our eyes to work their best they must be comfortable for as long as we are looking at the monitor. Keeping in mind the height of our desk top and chair when buy a monitor.

In general the appropriate size will allow you to sit about 30" back from the screen with your eye level above the top of the monitor with a 30-degree downward gaze angle. Monitors that are bigger than you need, will usually sit too high on a desk. This forces our eyes to look up at them causing additional near viewing stress. Too small of a screen will force us closer to the monitor also adding to near viewing stress. A 15" or 17" monitor is usually the best size for most of us.

Monitor size is measured by the distance from one corner of the screen's viewable area to the diagonally opposite corner. With CRTs, the number is generally about an inch greater than the actual area. The real number is included in the specs. For example, you might see a 17" monitor state 16.1" viewable. With flat panel monitors, the screen size specification is actually its real size.

What matters is monitor resolution, not monitor size. In the Computer World, the screens usually take the size of 14", 15", 17", and 19". There are 3 main screen resolutions: 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768 pixels. Usually 14-15" computers take on a 800x600 resolution, and larger screens use higher resolution, but this is NOT always the case. Some old 14" monitor can display up to 1024x768 pixels.

The monitor resolution or number of pixels in the viewing window affects the way it appears. Images and text have their dimensions ultimately specified in terms of pixels regardless of what's being used to view them. The greater the number of pixels, the finer the resolution. An image on a monitor with a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels will generally look better and be sharper than an image on a monitor with a resolution of 800 by 600 pixels or 640 x 480 pixels.

Resolution refers to the number of individual dots of color, known as pixels, contained on a display. Resolution is expressed by identifying the number of pixels on the horizontal axis (rows) and the number on the vertical axis (columns), such as 800x600. Resolution is affected by a number of factors, including the size of the screen.

Dont use any chemicals. Take soft cotton or cloth, dip it in water & squeeze to get rid of extra water, rub the cotton from left to right, very lightly & immediately use a dry cloth to dry the water(rub it from left to right).
Do the cleaning of screen in small part.

Dont exert pressure on screen, be very careful. Hold the TFT with one hand from the back or give support of the wall.

Will I be able to get HD with NVIDIA GeForce 8200 & Hannspree - 22" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD HD Monit?

Yes, you will be able to watch video at at least 720p broadcast HD resolutions on that setup. (720p is 1280x720 resolution).

You will NOT be able to watch Blu-Ray DVD playback at full 1080p HD resolutions though. 1080p is 1920x1080 resolution, and that monitor cannot handle 1080p.

HDMI is integrated digital DVI video and audio all in one cable.

Since that computer and the monitor both have HDMI ports, all you need is one HDMI cable to hook them up.
